My adventure in the Outback of Australia

THE OUTBACK OF AUSTRALIA

We flew with https://www.skyotravel.com/ Quantas Air,

from Sydney, Australia, into a tiny little airport in Ayers Rock, located in the outback of Australia. My dream of seeing the outback was finally coming true. The reason we chose Ayers Rock is because of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Ayers Rock resort is basically in the middle of nowhere surrounded by desert and red sand and is bustling with activity.

The transfer bus was waiting for us at the airport and we quickly arrived at our hotel, Sails in the Desert. We checked in and decided to grab some lunch at the hotel dining room and were very intrigued by the fact that the menu included Kangaroo meat.

Something you do need to know about the outback of Australia is that it is HOT! Even in Spring temperatures soar into the high 30 degrees celsius range. Hence, tours are scheduled at sunrise or close to sunset so that the heat will not be so unbearable. We decided to have an afternoon by the pool after heading to our room.

After the pool we took a nap to get ready for our first adventure as we were attending an outdoor dinner. Additionally a special treat afterward of the “Field of Light” exhibit created by British artist Bruce Munro.

The following morning we were up before the dawn in order to go watch the sunrise in Kata Tjuta National Park. It was already hot and the forecast was for almost 40C so thank goodness we would be back before it got too hot. I could feel the excitement build as we got closer and I could not wait to see it up close.

After an outdoor breakfast we headed further and were treated to some more lovely views.

We went back to our hotel for a nap before dinner and got up refreshed. Next day we were going to be hiking at the rock formations and we were up bright and early. So we set out for our hike and had a fabulous time once again. As well, we were in for a very cool surprise, a wild camel literally hanging out in the middle of nowhere.

A word of advice when planning a trip to Australia. Do not book much time in the Outback. If visiting Ayers Rock for example, there really isn’t that much to do. Furthermore, it is incredibly hot so 2 or 3 days is generally enough time.
